Wow. Day One of Pure//Accelerate 2016 was an unforgettable experience. Big thanks to the 1,500 industry movers and shakers from 30+ countries who helped make opening day a massive success. Live-streamed to the world in front of a standing room-only audience, the Day One keynote set the stage for Accelerate 2016, and the foreseeable future of flash-based enterprise data storage. Didn’t have the chance to catch it? Here are the highlights of what you missed:
Setting the mood.
Just a stone’s throw from AT&T Park on the San Francisco waterfront, Pier 48 was taken over by Accelerate 2016 and morphed into an experiential venue that appealed to every sense. From the blinking retro arcades and buzzworthy Flashblade virtual reality experience, to the latte bars and fleet of food trucks serving up tasty eats, walking through the main hall of Pier 48 and into the mainstage auditorium felt like a truly one-of-a-kind experience. And after the keynote featuring a kick-ass opening video and world-first looks at game-changing products, attendees enjoyed Pure Storage speciality cocktails during the end of day Hall Crawl.
Small Stack, Lots o’ blades, Big Outcomes.
Next up: John Hayes and Par Botes unveiled FlashBlade – a high-density, scalable powerhouse that beats down the industry cost of data storage to a truly game-changing $1/GB, all while using about as much power as a handheld hair dryer. The New York Times breaks down the backstory on FlashBlade, which you can check out here online or in the print edition today. All-flash and built for the ground-up, FlashBlade addresses the rapidly expanding unstructured data sets driven by IoT and constant connectivity. Want to know more about the tech and specs? Our VP of Product Matt Kixmoeller breaks it all down here. Audience members, both on the ground at Pier 48 and via livecast from around the globe, were also introduced to the brand new FlashStack Mini, a full-service cloud-based “mini data center” capable of fitting under your desk. Rounding out the day’s announcements was FlashArray//m10, an affordable entry point into all-flash storage for small-to-medium-size enterprises.
Don’t Panic: We’re just getting started!
Day One may be over, but we’ve got an unbelievable lineup for Accelerate 2016 but Day Two. Upcoming must-see mainstage presentations include the unique perspectives of Cisco superstar Biri Singh, how Pure technology is helping the World Champion San Francisco Giants and tech trends and predictions from the self-made tech tycoon and Shark Tank star, Robert Herjavec.
There’s also much more engaging and thought-provoking stage and break-out sessions, including the Founders’ Vision Q&A, and Flashblade Unplugged, the hotly anticipated panel with the engineers behind Flashblade. And don’t forget the mind-bending Flashblade virtual reality experience and grand finale concert with Panic! At the Disco live at Pier 48!
