What a seemingly unpredictable race! The Pure Pit Wall, however, correctly called the podium finishers (RIC, VES, ROS) as it worked throughout the 56 lap Malaysian Grand Prix.


The race saw a number of incidents, with the Virtual Safety Car being introduced three times during the race. Last year there were three laps under the actual Safety Car, while this year there were none.

MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team driver Lewis Hamilton started from pole position and led most of the race up until the 40th Lap, when an unfortunate sudden failure of the Internal Combustion Engine meant that he had to retire.

On the other hand, MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team driver Nico Rossberg was caught up in an incident at the first corner which meant that he found himself at the back of the pack but climbed his way up the grid to cross the finish line in P3.

Nico made 13 overtakes in the race, which saw a total of 77 overtakes (26 with DRS). This was his 52nd career podium, and his 50th top three finish with the Silver Arrows. Nico also successfully obtained his sixth fastest lap this season on Lap 44, with a 1:36.424. This was also his 20th fastest race lap of his career.

Just like last year’s race, a two pit-stop strategy was the winning formula.
 With his P3, Nico (288) has now extended his lead in the Drivers’ Championship to 23 points ahead of Lewis (265) in second, while the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula OneTM Team (553) still leads Red Bull (359) by 194 points in the Constructors’ Championship.
