Today we are proud to announce that the Pure Storage FlashArray was selected as a Product of the Year Finalist by Storage Magazine.  The Storage System category in which we were nominated includes Fibre Channel and iSCSI SANs, network-attached storage, multiprotocol systems, direct-attached storage (NAS), hard disk drives, solid-state storage, disk controllers, caching appliances, storage virtualization appliances and cloud storage gateway appliances.  That’s quite a list of product categories with hundreds of entries, so we’re really honored to have made the cut!

Product of the Year Finalist

With these awards, and Storage Magazine help potential users more easily identify the leading products to inform their decision making when choosing a storage solution.  The editors offer objective perspectives on new products in the market, which can be discovered in their prolific coverage of storage product announcements.

What’s notable about this year’s nominations is that 13 of the 15 nominated storage products contain flash memory. Coincidence?? We read this as another strong marker that the industry is well underway in its switch from mechanical disk to solid-state storage.  And, almost none of the 13 nominees include inline data reduction (dedup, compression, thin provisioning), a capability that is integral to using flash in enterprise applications because it produces so many efficiencies within the system as well as extending the life of the fickle flash cell.  It is also great to see that the product category listed is storage systems, and thus the comparison for Pure is against other storage arrays.  Fundamentally that’s what users are buying – a storage array, that happens to be populated with flash memory.

A hearty congratulations to all the nominees who were acknowledged as finalists, and best of luck in the final round!
