How Pure Storage is Celebrating World Environment Day 2020

This year, World Environment Day will be different to any other, at least to any other in the last 10 years. With the world in lockdown, the usual rallies and events highlighting the need for a more sustainable future, will in most cases be replaced by digital events.

We recognize the economic cost and human hardship caused by the economic lockdowns and health crisis, and empathize with the great number of people so impacted. One of the silver linings of this situation is that less air travel, less heavy manufacturing, and less general commute traffic means that air pollution has reduced, air quality has risen, consumers are sourcing products more locally, and we’ve been given a glimpse of a more sustainable means of living.

From a Pure perspective, it’s our commitment to the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) that fuels our mission to create sustainable value for workers, the environment and business, helping to unite both people and organisations, and encourage worldwide awareness to protect the environment that we live in. Through trying to limit our environmental footprint, our aim is to make an impact within our communities and additionally to make continual steps to provide a more sustainable world for future generations.

World Environment Day provides the perfect platform for organisations like Pure to showcase the various projects, schemes, and initiatives that we are involved in. Our hope is that we can inspire, encourage, and empower customers to take on a more sustainable lifestyle and support their own sustainability goals.

This year, the theme for World Environment Day is biodiversity – a critical topic in the current climate. This is why we partner with One Tree Planted to support reforestation, as well as place recycling at the heart of everything that we do. To help empower our own employees to take part in sustainability initiatives, we’ve set up the Pure Sustainability Affinity Group, helping to lead our employees on issues of plastic consumption and food waste, as well as donating to environmental organisations.

What’s more, Pure is proud to provide our customers with one of the most energy-efficient storage solutions. Moving from legacy storage to Pure all-flash can provide up to 90% savings in physical space – as well as up to 90% energy savings both directly and through reduced cooling costs.

In case you didn’t already know, Pure also invented Evergreen™ Storage. Through Pure’s highly-modular FlashArray and FlashBlade®  architectures, we offer simple, non-disruptive upgrades and component replacements, allowing us to ship less physical product and save on cost, energy, and carbon emissions. In eight years, Pure customers have saved over 4 billion kWh in greenhouse gas emissions –  equivalent to 7,000,000,000 miles driven by a single car, and carbon sequestered equivalent to 47 million tree seedlings grown for 10 years!

Our brand colours may be orange, but our corporate intentions are green.
