Based on these conversations, and our own research, we put together the “Buyer’s Guide to Modern Virtualization” to help you consider pathways to explore as you evaluate your current virtualization strategy.

Essentially, there are four pathways to explore:

  • Stay with VMware and optimize. One viable option is to stay on VMware and consider ways to optimize your stack. This can include looking at ways to diversify your stack with solutions that directly integrate with VMware.
  • Move to an alternative virtualization hypervisor like Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, or OpenStack for on-premises virtualization.
  • Move to the cloud with managed VMware services like Azure VMware Solution, Google Cloud VMware Engine, or Oracle Cloud VMware Solution. These solutions offer scalability and reduced infrastructure management overhead.
  • Modernize VMs with KubeVirt and run VMs alongside container-based applications on a single platform. This pathway offers flexibility and scalability while facilitating the transition to modern application development.

Each pathway has pros and cons, and most large enterprises will likely choose a combination of all four. As an IT leader, you may want to evaluate each option at a workload level. Whether optimizing existing VMware deployments or embracing containerization, the goal is to create future-proof infrastructure that you can rely on to support everything from legacy applications to the workloads of tomorrow.

Of course, as always, Pure Storage is here as your partner to help, offering flexible storage solutions compatible with various virtualization providers, public clouds, and container platforms. With reliable, efficient, and flexible storage, Pure Storage can help you modernize on your terms.
