This blog on Pure Storage being named A Leader for Primary Storage was published in 2021, and Pure has since gone on to become an 11X leader. Read here to learn more.
11X A Leader*,
5X Furthest in Vision
I’m proud to share that for the eighth consecutive year, Gartner has recognized Pure as a leader in storage. And for the second year in a row, Pure is a leader in both the Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision axes in the recently published 2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant™ for Primary Storage.
I came to Pure a little over a year ago because of Pure’s leadership and what I had heard from customers: both in terms of talent and also technology. I have always felt that Pure was exceptional at meeting customer needs, taking the FIRST mover advantage, and disrupting the industry norm. And then there are the human beings who work at Pure and the culture the company has created: it’s built on a foundation of respect, trust and doing what’s right for our customers. The human leadership and the technology leadership combine to make Pure a very special place, and on a day like today I am grateful to call myself a Pure employee.
Validation of a Vision
We recently celebrated our 12th anniversary here at Pure Storage, and the publishing of this Magic Quadrant™ also feels like a good time to step back and think about what was once a crazy, far out there vision is now a standard across enterprise data centers. As a small startup, it was probably too visionary to imagine becoming a leader on both axes of one of the industry’s most respected analyst reports, in both the ability to execute and completeness of vision.
Pure saw the problems in enterprise storage: complexity, cost and poor customer experience were the norm of a never ending purchase and replacement cycle that occurred every three to five years. Pure started with a belief that there had to be a better way, with flash as the disrupting technology that would act as the fulcrum to deliver it. We set out to deliver the vision of data storage that was as easy to deploy and use as a consumer product.
There were the technical challenges. How do you bring effective cost per terabyte close to the level of disk-based arrays? How do you find ways to make SSDs last for three to five years under data center workloads? How do you really innovate in data reduction, resiliency and productivity in a market that has been crowded for years?
But beyond the technical challenges, perhaps the biggest hurdle was helping customers believe they could use an unproven technology with their most mission-critical apps. Now no one questions it: flash dominates in the world’s most performance sensitive and demanding applications. This is an amazing time to take a step back and see how Pure’s vision has been validated. Now we stand on the cusp of disrupting the data storage market again.
Why Customers Choose Pure
This placement also follows being one of only three vendors to receive the Customers’ Choice recognition, and the only vendor for which 100% of the reviewers expressed a “willingness to recommend” in the May 2021 Gartner Peer Insights Customers’ Choice for Primary Storage Arrays.
In addition to FlashArray being positioned in the Leaders Quadrant in the 2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant™ for Primary Storage, FlashBlade was also recognized as a Leader in the 2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant™ for Distributed File Systems and Object Storage.
The common thread in being named a Leader in two Gartner Magic Quadrant reports is the trust that our customers place in us with their most critical asset—their data. We’re lucky to partner with technology leaders and innovators who inspire us to innovate faster to solve their hardest data challenges.
Here are just a few recent customer stories that showcase how Pure helps organizations increase agility and resilience in their business operations. Pure enabled:
