January 2025 Recap

We’re excited to share our most recent updates for January 2025:

Streamlining Storage Management Made Simple

Managing enterprise storage infrastructure can be complex and time-consuming, especially when using legacy storage vendors. The most recent update of Pure Fusion™ tackles this challenge head-on with the introduction of storage presets—a powerful feature that simplifies how organizations handle their storage policies and deployments.

Storage presets represent a significant leap forward in storage management efficiency. These presets serve as comprehensive policy bundles that automate critical storage operations across your infrastructure. With a single preset, you can define and standardize your workloads with:

  • Volume configurations
  • Snapshot management parameters
  • Quality of service (QoS) settings
  • Disaster recovery requirements

The real power lies in the preset’s ability to maintain consistency. Once configured, these policies automatically extend to new storage arrays as they join your infrastructure, ensuring uniform standards across your entire fleet.

At the heart of Pure Fusion’s effectiveness is its sophisticated automation engine. This system takes the complexity out of storage provisioning by:

  • Automatically deploying workloads that align with your defined policies
  • Eliminating time-consuming manual setup procedures
  • Maintaining consistency across your storage environment

This automation delivers two crucial benefits: It frees your technical teams to focus on strategic initiatives while significantly reducing the risk of human error in deployment processes. The result is a more reliable, consistent, and efficiently managed storage infrastructure.

Modern Enterprise Storage Is Here

The recent Purity//FB 4.5.2 release was one of our biggest yet for FlashBlade®. With a simple upgrade, it delivers on the exciting Real-time Enterprise File innovations we announced at Accelerate London and is available to all customers with a simple upgrade.

Fueling Enterprise Scalability with the new 150TB DirectFlash Module

Building on our industry-leading sustainability advantages, the availability of 150TB DirectFlash® Modules (DFMs) on FlashBlade//E™ further extends our storage density and power efficiency advantages over the nearest HDD-based competitors. Customers can now double their FlashBlade//E capacity in the same footprint and scale their FlashBlade//E clusters up to 60PBs in a single namespace while lowering their operational expenses.

Say Goodbye to Complex Data Migrations with Zero Move Tiering

The days of legacy data tiering requiring data to be placed in silos (as well as the unnecessary latency, cost, and complexity that go with it) are over.

FlashBlade Zero Move Tiering delivers a revolutionary approach to data management. Offering intelligent data access across heterogeneous all-flash clusters, this new feature optimizes performance while streamlining cost. By not requiring data movement and ensuring seamless access to hot and cold data alike, Zero Move Tiering means unmatched performance, better predictability, and enhanced agility.

Secure Multi-tenancy Made Easier

The Pure Storage platform now features Secure Multi-tenancy (SMT) for modern file workloads, introducing a sophisticated approach to workload isolation and resource sharing.

SMT enables organizations to securely host multiple workloads on a single array while maintaining strict isolation between tenants, maximizing storage efficiency without compromising data security. The feature simplifies cross-organizational data sharing by allowing users and application groups to safely access file data across various networks and domains, all while maintaining clear visibility and control.

This advancement eliminates the traditional trade-off between security and efficiency, delivering enterprise-grade performance and isolation without the complex pre-planning typically required by legacy systems. Organizations can now dynamically manage their file services with the confidence that each tenant’s data remains protected and separate, while still benefiting from consolidated storage resources.

More FlashBlade Innovations

This release introduces Object Lock Replication for FlashBlade//S™. Object Lock is a data protection mechanism designed to protect S3 objects for a predefined time or perpetuity, preventing deletion by accident or a ransomware attack. It provides a robust data protection framework with features like Retention Mode and Retention Period, which help protect object versions and data. The management framework supports configuration through the FlashBlade//S™ GUI, CLI, and S3 APIs, allowing applications to manage Object Lock with minimal dependency on Pure Storage Technical Support.

Another new feature is Heterogeneous Capacity Expansions, bringing unprecedented flexibility to help customers scale by enabling organizations to combine different DFM sizes within the same system. This means customers can add smaller DFMs for modest capacity increases or larger ones for substantial expansions while preserving FlashBlade’s signature performance.

By eliminating the traditional, one-size-fits-all approach to storage expansion offered by legacy vendors, Pure Storage is empowering organizations of all sizes to fine-tune their storage environments to meet their needs and budgets.

Enhanced Disaster Recovery Capabilities

Pure Protect™ //DRaaS 1.7 delivers significant enhancements to address modern disaster recovery needs. The update introduces robust local caching and enhanced support for large virtual machines, greatly improving the platform’s ability to handle demanding workloads. This release also brings a scalable multi-tenant architecture, enabling organizations to efficiently manage diverse operational environments while maintaining strict isolation between tenants.

The integration of Pure Identity and Access Management (PIAM) strengthens security and streamlines access control, while a modernized user interface framework elevates the overall user experience. These improvements work together to create a more resilient, secure, and user-friendly disaster recovery solution that can adapt to evolving business requirements while maintaining operational simplicity.

Pure1 Enhancements

Pure1’s enhanced Workload Planner now delivers more comprehensive fleet management capabilities, enabling precise workload consolidation simulations across both new and existing arrays. The expanded platform coverage includes support for FlashArray//C20 appliances and FlashArray//E™ appliances with Gen2 chassis, providing detailed insights into capacity, controller utilization, and data pack configurations. This enhanced planning toolkit ensures organizations can make informed decisions about workload distribution and infrastructure upgrades with confidence.

Pure1® also strengthens security with new AI-powered anomaly detection features focused on administrative activities and mass deletions. These intelligent monitoring capabilities automatically flag unusual patterns in admin actions and data deletion events, providing early warning of potential security threats or operational errors. This proactive approach to data protection helps organizations identify and respond to suspicious activities before they can impact business operations, adding another layer of defense to Pure Storage’s comprehensive security framework.

Pure1’s latest Self-service Upgrade (SSU) enhancements demonstrate a commitment to operational efficiency and ease of use. A more intelligent upgrade process now automatically manages expired packages by seamlessly re-downloading bundles without disrupting the upgrade workflow. For enterprises managing large environments, SSU now supports unlimited bulk operations. This dramatic improvement over the previous 10-operation limit enables true enterprise-scale upgrade management. Further expanding its enterprise capabilities, SSU now extends support to Purity//FA non-encrypted deployments, ensuring consistent upgrade experiences across diverse storage environments.
