OpenStack is a widely used, open source cloud operating system managed by the non-profit OpenInfra Foundation, which claims deployment on over 40 million compute cores. With OpenStack, users can “automate all the IT things,” including provisioning, user self-service, cost reporting and billing, and other features.
Major software, hardware, and cloud vendors support OpenInfra, including Ericsson, Meta, Microsoft, and Red Hat. Pure Storage has been a long-time supporter of OpenStack, contributing over 50,000 lines of code to various projects, including 22,000 for Cinder.
Pure is continuing its support this year by being a sponsor of the OpenInfra Summit, June 13-15, 2023, at the Vancouver Convention Centre. You can find us at booth #A12. We’re also sponsoring a happy hour on Tuesday, June 13, at 5 pm local time at Brass Fish Tavern, which is just a few minutes’ walk from the convention center. Pure’s OpenStack contributor and expert, Simon Dodsley, will be on hand. Brass Fish has over 250 whiskeys to try! Please register here to attend.
Pure has had a long-time focus on optimizing its storage for use with OpenStack. While an overall OpenStack deployment can be complex, Pure helps simplify the block storage portion by offering easy integrations via its Cinder driver. Multiple storage configurations can be made directly in the OpenStack GUI, including creating and deleting volumes; attaching and detaching hosts; and creating, deleting, and reverting snapshots. You can find more details in our OpenStack solution brief.
Pure also helps you protect your data via both synchronous and asynchronous data replication. In fact, Pure is the first vendor to provide upstream support for a new three-site Cinder replication model using a new “replication type” called “trisync.” Trisync allows a single volume to be created and replicated to both a synchronous target and a different asynchronous target concurrently, providing a true three-site disaster recovery configuration.
For the technical details on this new capability, visit Simon’s blog. Also known as The Ansible Guy, Simon is Pure’s Director of Open Source Integrations and an expert on all things OpenStack and IT automation. Best of all, he’ll be at OpenInfra this year, so please stop by the Pure booth with all your OpenStack and automation questions. Simon will also be presenting a Lightning Talk about Cinder replication on Thursday, June 15, at 10:40 am. We look forward to seeing you in Vancouver!
